Our environmentally friendly landscape division maintains many of the projects we install for years after completion. Some of our original customers have been with us for nearly 25 years.

Plans - Consulting - Design: At BVL we pride ourselves on developing custom, unique and interesting designs. Years of experience and education allow us to know the proper solutions and ideas to fit your needs. Proper planning is essential to a well thought out greenscape/hardscape/lighting design that blends beautifully with your existing house and landscape. Plan development and design fees are based on the size and scope of the project. Planning is possibly the single most important step in creating an efficient project that will fall within your budget.
Greenscapes - Greenscapes can be described as a project which involves bed preparation and some type of planting; hence the word "green". Our years of experience help us select the right plants for your project. We understand our growing zone and select only plants that meet our requirements for hardiness and beauty. We know which species are deer resistant, drought tolerant, thrive in shade, etc. All of our work is done according to the specifications developed by the Landscape Contractor Association and American Association of Nurserymen.
Hardscapes - Several services are offered from our hardscape division. Hardscaping refers to anything involving some type of construction. Paver and brick walkways, irregular and cut bluestone patios and walkways, segmented concrete walls, stack stone walls - wet (mortar) or dry (mortar less), L&S architectural stone, timber walls, boulder steps, garden path stones, outdoor gas fire pits, complete outdoor kitchens with gas grill, sink and refrigerator, sunken hot tubs, pool decks, pool waterfalls and coping stone and pergolas. Our staff is certified with the Interlocking Concrete Paving Institute (ICPI), an organization that standardizes and specifies patio installation. We are also trained and certified for retaining walls thru Vers-a-Lok. We use a master plumber when needed for gas and sink hook ups. We also have a business relationship with a pool and spa company, Gallagher Pools in Westminster for tub and in ground pool purchases.
Aquascapes - Aquascapes usually refers to ponds and water gardening. Nothing is quite as relaxing as the tranquil and soothing soothing sounds of falling water. We have built over 150 ponds, some with waterfalls, streams, koi fish, wading areas, aquatic plants, even pondless waterfalls for those that enjoy the soothing sound of falliing water without the maintenance. We are an authorized Nursery Pro Ultra Pond dealer. We not only install your pond, but we also carry all the necessary supplies to keep your water garden in tip top shape. We carry koi fish, fish food, chemicals, pond supplies and accessories, skimmer and falls boxes and aquatic plants. If we install your pond, we will even test your water, when necessary, for free at the Green Thumb.
Lighting - In landscape terms, lighting refers to subtle low voltage lighting, which highlights your existing greenscape, hardscape, or aquascape. It takes creativity and an understanding of light placement to create effects such as silhouette, accent, spot, grazing, shadowing, up-lighting and down-lighting, and , moon lighting. Picking the right fixtures that will hold up over time as well as transformers that will offer you expansion of your system as well as photocell, dusk to dawn, a stand alone timer, or dusk to set time, is vital to a trouble free and satisfied long term lighting operation. Equally important is choosing the proper size wire to avoid voltage drop and having some lights look dim while others look intensely bright. We sell and install the following light manufacturers: Hadco, Luma, Lumiere, After Sunset, Malibu & Kichler.
Maintenance - Maintenance refers to the ongoing care of your newly installed greenscape, hardscape, aquascape or lighting as well as renovating your existing landscape. We are licensed by the Maryland Department of Agriculture to apply insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers including hydraulically deep root feeding of your trees and shrubs with vital nutrients, applying herbicides to help control overgrown and stubborn weeds, applying herbicides to help control overgrown and stubborn weeds and applying insecticides to help control plant pests, which left alone, could ultimately destroy your investment. We prune trees and shrubs, weed, edge and mulch beds. We renovate and install lawns. We install seasonal color, spring and fall annuals as well as bulbs - daffodils, tulips, etc. We can clean your pond, clean the filters, service the pumps, adjust the waterfalls, winterize and springtime open your ponds. We can check your lighting, change bulbs, cut back vegetation and re-aim.
